October's Full Moon- Aries

Our Next Full Moon is on Thursday October 17th, called the Hunter's Moon. The Hunter’s Moon, the full moon following the Harvest Moon, holds a rich history rooted in traditional agricultural and hunting practices. It typically occurs in October or early November, depending on the lunar cycle. The name is believed to have originated from Native American, Anglo-Saxon, and Celtic customs. After the Harvest Moon, which allowed farmers to work late into the night gathering crops, the next full moon signaled the time for hunting. With fields now cleared, hunters could easily track deer and other animals that ventured out to forage, providing essential food for the colder months ahead.

Symbolically, the Hunter’s Moon represents a time of preparation. In many cultures, it marks the moment when people gather resources, both physically through hunting and spiritually, as they prepare for the darker, colder winter days. The moon encourages reflection on personal achievements and serves as a reminder to make ready for what lies ahead. Spiritually, it is often associated with deities of the hunt, such as Artemis in Greek mythology, Diana in Roman tradition, and the Celtic god Cernunnos, all of whom are linked to wild animals and survival in the wilderness.

The brightness of the Hunter’s Moon, often appearing larger and more orange than usual due to the moon’s orbit, adds to its mystical appeal. Sometimes referred to as a blood moon, its striking appearance enhances the sense of change and transition, a visual cue for the shift from autumn to winter.

The Hunter’s Moon remains a deeply significant event, blending practical concerns of survival with spiritual and symbolic meaning. It embodies the themes of reflection, transition, and preparation, offering a powerful connection to both the natural and mystical worlds.

This Full Moon is in the sign of Aries. Full Moon’s are a time to release and letting go of those blocks that have been standing in your way. While the Moon is at its fullest point, keep in your minds eye those things you would like to DECREASE as the moon starts its descent into the new phase and decreases in visible size. You can read about a few ways to help you harness this in rituals HERE.

Aries is one of the 3 fire signs and can be seen as the “baby” of the zodiac due to being the first sign on the zodiac wheel. Tapping into this hot-headed energy of Aries is what will help channel some of the urge to move associated with Aries, this Full Moon is all about action. This Moon is squared with Mars (the planet of action & movement) and Pluto (the planet of destruction & regeneration) forcing some hidden things to the surface to be sorted though so you  can move forward. Pluto’s energy is heavy but this heaviness can be a good motivator for moving on, moving forward and taking the steps you need to take next. There is so uncomfortability with this Full Moon, but it is in the zone of discomfort that we grow the most.

Aries is quick, energetic, and can be pushy but brings heightened energy, passion, and a focus on individual action. When the Moon is full in Aries, it illuminates themes related to personal initiative, leadership, and impulsive emotions.

Here are some key themes of the Aries Full Moon:

Boldness and Action: This full moon encourages you to take decisive actions, especially in areas where you may have been hesitant. It’s a great time to start new projects or take charge of situations that need leadership.

Emotional Intensity: Emotions can run high during an Aries Full Moon, often manifesting as impatience, anger, or excitement. It’s important to find healthy ways to channel this energy.

Personal Freedom vs. Relationships: Since the Full Moon often brings opposites to light, the balance between personal freedom (Aries) and cooperation or compromise in relationships (Libra, the opposite sign) becomes a central focus.

Courage and Confidence: Aries energy can inspire a boost in self-confidence. This is a great time to stand up for yourself, assert your needs, and embrace your inner warrior.

New Beginnings: Full moons often represent culmination or endings, but with Aries' pioneering spirit, it can also signify the start of a new chapter, especially if you're ready to move forward boldly. (An ending is just a new beginning after all)

An Aries Full Moon can be a powerful time for reflection, action, and emotional release. Many people use this energy to break free from old patterns or assert their independence in some area of life.

Some Full Moon shadow work prompts:

  • Reflect on the ways being impatient has had a negative impact on goals and aspirations.

  • What is something I can work to let go of right now to help me in what I am trying to achieve?

  • How do I feel when I take up space in a social setting?

  • What makes me feel confident? When do I feel the most confident?

  • Is there anything I need to let go of right now?
