I think one of the most confusing parts about mindfulness for me was that I wasn't sure how to quiet my mind. My thoughts raced so fast that I did not have the skills to slow them. These are some of the very basic breath counting that has laid the foundation for my meditation practice.
Once I learned how to quiet my mind by counting my breaths, I started to be able to sit in formal sitting meditation and I used this skill as a means of emotional regulation as well.
This information was found in a library copy of Happiness by Thich Nhat Hanh and I offer this informal freely as I do believe in mindfulness and its accessibility to all.
